About The Position

The Environmental Services Lead is responsible for performing complete cleaning of assigned areas, including dusting, sanitizing, washing, floor care, and restocking. This role involves heavy contact with cleaning chemicals and may include outdoor cleaning and the use of ladders. The Lead also removes waste, maintains equipment, ensures proper cleaning and disinfection of patient areas, and attends training to stay current on procedures and chemical usage. Additionally, they inspect and release cleaned rooms, stock supplies, complete project work, and conduct custodial training.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum two years' in-house experience.
  • 120 hours of hard surface experience.
  • 60 hours carpet care experience.
  • No current CAFs.
  • Completion of the competency for the Emergency Department.
  • Certifications in EVS Customer Service Care, operating room cleaning, and in all floor care.
  • Ability to operate all cleaning equipment.
  • Implements proper use of chemicals to reduce bloodborne protocol.
  • Proficient in chemical usage.
  • Quality scores 90% or higher.
  • Mentors EVS Technicians I & II.
  • Wake One knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Performs complete cleaning of assigned areas including dusting and sanitizing furniture, equipment, mirrors and fixtures; washing windows, walls, ceilings, vents and light fixtures; sweeping, scrubbing and refinishing floors; vacuuming and shampooing carpet; re-stocking restrooms; replacing light bulbs; and reporting repairs.
  • Handles cleaning chemicals, disinfecting agents, floor strippers and finishes. May assist with outdoor cleaning including parking lot, windows and roof. May use a ladder for various cleaning activities.
  • Removes waste by collecting and transporting soiled linen, emptying trash containers, changing sharps containers, transporting solid and hazardous waste to compactors, recycling material, and emptying cigarette receptacles in smoking areas.
  • Keeps job-associated equipment clean and orderly, and reports equipment failures or mechanical issues to maintenance staff.
  • Assures daily patient areas, clinics, offices and labs are cleaned with proper use of chemicals for cleaning and disinfecting. Documents cleaning actions noting areas requiring additional monitoring or care. Informs Supervisor of incomplete work and communicates between shifts. Meets Departmental Quality Standards.
  • Attends training as scheduled. Complies with procedures, rules and regulations relating to the use of chemicals and supplies. Remains current on technical updates, reading labels, and on the mixing and dilution of chemicals.
  • Inspects and releases cleaned rooms to Admissions. Stocks and distributes cleaning supplies. Completes project work as assigned. Conducts routine follow-up custodial training.
