About The Position

This is a full-time, 40-hour per week position on the night shift, from 10:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., with rotation including holidays and weekends. This position is part of the Night program and is unionized under AFSCME. The starting pay is $14.64 per hour plus a $1.10 shift differential, with an additional $2 shift differential after six months of employment. The program guidelines detail requirements for working budgeted shifts, receiving differentials for off-shift hours, and policies regarding PTO and performance ratings. Program eligibility requires regular full-time or part-time status in a department with 24-hour on-site coverage, completion of orientation, at least six months of experience, and a Solid/Strong/Good performance rating with no corrective actions in the last six months. New employees can enter the program at hire. Resignation or removal from the program for not meeting guidelines results in a one-year exclusion. Participants not working steady night shifts are ineligible for the additional differential and their participation will be evaluated. There is no impact to medical benefits, short-term disability, long-term disability, PTO, or tuition reimbursement as part of this program.

Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and handle heavy to light loads by pushing or pulling refuse carts and electric or battery powered equipment.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, climb, push, pull, or crawl.
  • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions, policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time.
  • Act 34 clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • High school graduate or GED preferred.
  • Prior training in institutional cleaning desired but not necessary.
  • Previous experience in similar work preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operates all departmental equipment in a safe, orderly, and efficient manner.
  • Maintains equipment after usage by cleaning and properly storing it.
  • Climbs ladders to hang drapes or reach areas for cleaning/disinfecting.
  • Cleans and services hospital building areas, moves furniture, equipment, and supplies.
  • Performs a variety of housekeeping duties to maintain the hospital in an orderly and sanitary condition.
  • Washes walls, ceilings, and inside windows by hand or machine.
  • May be called upon to wash outside windows and screens.
  • Washes drapes, cubicles, mops, and rags when requested.
  • Gathers and disposes of refuse.
  • Washes wastebaskets and large refuse containers and relines them with plastic bags.
  • Cleans light fixtures, tops of windows, door frames, and other high places using ladders or scaffolds.
  • Moves equipment, furniture, and bulk files on and off site when requested.
  • Procures and/or returns files from an established filing system.
  • Uses chemicals in a safe and efficient manner according to hospital/departmental guidelines.
  • Wears all personal protective equipment as required.
  • Disinfects areas by scrubbing and spraying with approved germicide cleaner.
  • Terminally cleans and disinfects patient rooms, isolation rooms, floors, beds, restrooms, furniture, and equipment after patient transfer or discharge following Infection Control procedures.
  • Collects all regular and infectious waste according to established guidelines.
  • Scours, polishes, and washes sinks, tubs, mirrors, and other plumbing fixtures.
  • Cleans water coolers and replaces disposables (towels, soap, dispensers, toilet tissue).
  • Accountable for daily and routine quality checks/reviews and making necessary improvements.
  • Sweeps, mops, vacuums, and wet scrubs floors, halls, and stairways.
  • Receives daily assignments and supplies, transports them to the work area.
  • Returns unused supplies to hopper/supply room at the end of the shift.
  • Cleans utility cart and equipment.
  • Performs repetitive tasks in maintaining assigned areas in a sanitary, orderly, and attractive condition.
  • Assembles necessary cleaning supplies and equipment for transport to the work area.
  • Makes discharge beds with clean linen in the prescribed manner.
  • Requests help for heavy furniture or equipment moves.
  • Notifies supervisor when supplies are low.
  • Reports any mechanical failures or conditions observed in assigned areas.
