About The Position

The Environmental Services Aide is responsible for performing duties to provide a clean, sanitary, and pleasant environment to a high standard to enhance quality patient care. This role is part of the MVH Storm/Disaster Team and is expected to be available to prepare for a storm and take steps to restoring normal operations as soon as possible after an event, performing relief and clean-up duties. The role also involves shoveling snow, salting walks, operating a snow blower, and sanding driveways. Additionally, the aide may assist in moving furniture and other contents between buildings or for office moves. Maintaining equipment and workspace neatness, cleanliness, and safety is crucial. The position may require driving a hospital vehicle and performing minor maintenance tasks. The aide is responsible for locking/unlocking doors and performing security rounds, always following Infection Prevention protocols and standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Experience in environmental services or housekeeping preferred 0-1 year required
  • Knowledge of various waste streams; Biological, Hazardous, Sharps and Recycling waste streams and their respective collection points.
  • Knowledge of departmental Fire Management Plan.
  • Responds to fire alarms and assist Fire Department as required.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and high-quality customer service skills required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain assigned areas set forth by supervisor and/or manager.
  • Cleaning of all floors, offices, clinical and non-clinical spaces, halls, common areas (including stairs), rest room facilities, doorways, and entrances immediately outside of assigned area.
  • Sweep, scrub, refinish, polish and strip floors using brooms and mops and power scrubbing swing machine and floor machines.
  • Clean carpets, to include vacuuming, shampooing, deodorizing, and disinfecting.
  • Strip and remake beds; bundle soiled linen; clean guest/patient rooms, bathrooms, dust and sanitize flat surfaces; empty trash; vacuum, sweep, dry mop, and wet mop rooms, hallways, stairways, and other public areas; wash walls; move linens to and from drop-off locations.
  • Serve as a member of the MVH Storm/Disaster Team.
  • Shovels snow, salts walk, operates snow blower, sands driveways.
  • Assist in moving furniture and other contents from building to building and/or office moves as required.
  • Keep equipment and workspace neat, clean and safe. (Storage areas, EVS closets...etc.).
  • Able to drive Hospital vehicle, as needed.
  • Performs minor maintenance as required.
  • Locks/unlocks doors and does security rounds.
  • Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.
  • Always follows Infection prevention protocols and standards.
