About The Position

The Environmental Service Worker I serves a diverse population of patients, including patients with special needs, at all stages of life, as well as visitors and staff. The role performs environmental cleaning duties and uses age-appropriate, effective communication to support customer satisfaction and a positive patient experience. The position is per diem, with variable days from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency to follow written work assignments and maintain records.
Approximately one to three months of experience to gain knowledge of cleaning procedures and equipment use and maintenance.
Good interpersonal skills, demonstrable in interactions with staff, administrators, patients, and visitors.
Continued education through appropriate seminars, workshops, departmental meetings, and in-services, and attention to NYU policy.

Responsibilities

Report to the supervisor for assignment.
Obtain cleaning equipment and ensure cleaning items are in place.
Proceed to the assigned destination, introduce oneself to patients, visitors, or employees, and briefly explain the assignment.
Complete the 7 Step Cleaning procedure, including in vacated patient areas and bed sanitizing; ensure linens are clean, neat, and in excellent condition.
Visually inspect cleaned areas to ensure appropriate cleanliness and neatness.
Obtain cleaning supplies and chemicals needed to complete assignments.
Stock the closet or cart with supplies and chemicals needed for assignments.
Maintain the cart in a neat, clean, orderly, and working condition.
Ensure the Environmental cart does not block fire doors.
Follow manufacturer guidelines when using chemicals and secure all chemicals when leaving the area.
Report unsafe equipment and products to the supervisor.
Use AIDET during each patient, visitor, and staff encounter.
Promote the hospital’s service standards and a positive patient experience.
Demonstrate competencies related to the 7 step room cleaning procedure.
