About The Position

This temporary position involves cleaning, sanitizing, and preparing patient rooms and other areas within the hospital. The role requires maintaining cleanliness of equipment and assigned areas, performing specialized cleaning procedures, and managing waste removal. The Environmental Service Aide will also be responsible for setting up A/V equipment for meetings, floor and carpet care, and ensuring a safe and clean environment for patients and staff.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate in English to understand and respond to basic verbal and written English language instruction.
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the position.
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention Training within 3 months of new position for positions in the In-Patient Psych Unit.
  • Positive attitude, pleasant, cooperative, committed to the team approach, and displays a professional demeanor with patients, families, physicians, and fellow workers.

Responsibilities

  • Clean, terminal clean, and sanitize assigned areas using proper equipment, chemicals, and supplies.
  • Prepare patient rooms for occupancy and input information into the room ready notification system.
  • Maintain all equipment and closets in a clean and orderly condition, cleaning equipment at the end of each shift.
  • Perform specialized cleaning procedures in areas such as CCU procedure rooms, nurseries, and isolation rooms.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the unit environment, including kitchen areas, med rooms, bathrooms, janitor closets, refrigerators, microwaves, and all clinical equipment.
  • Report problems with equipment to the charge nurse.
  • Set up meetings and functions, supplying appropriate A/V equipment.
  • Perform floor care, including spray buffing, high-speed burnishing of tile floors, spot cleaning and buffing carpets.
  • Move cleaning equipment, supplies, and furniture as requested within or between hospital buildings.
  • Remove general trash, medical waste, and soiled/used linen from work areas, placing them in specified bags/containers and transporting them to the assigned disposal area.
  • Handle cleaning chemicals and solutions according to product labeling and departmental procedures.
  • Utilize housekeeping equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to safety regulations.
  • Participate in in-service educational programs and staff meetings.
  • Perform other work-related duties as requested/directed.
