AECOM has an exciting opportunity for a Mid-Level Geologist or Environmental Scientist to join our team in Charlotte, North Carolina. We are seeking candidates who can immediately contribute to the successful delivery of ongoing projects. You will collaborate with a diverse team of technical leaders across a broad range of practice areas, providing remediation consulting, design, and implementation services to our key clients. AECOM is looking for a candidate with a technical background in the environmental investigation and remediation consulting industry in North Carolina, particularly with experience in the retail petroleum sector and working with the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ). This candidate should be interested in growing their career into an Environmental Project Manager role. Additionally, the candidate should be willing to assist AECOM project managers with similar projects in North Carolina.

Requirements

  • B.S. in geology, hydrogeology, environmental sciences, environmental engineering, or a related field.
  • 4 years of environmental remediation consulting (private or public) and/or an equivalency of education and experience.
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license.
  • Pass a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • 6 years of experience in the environmental remediation consulting industry (private or public), with at least 3 years of task management or project management experience.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.
  • OSHA 30-hour Construction Supervisor certification.
  • Experience working on environmental remediation projects, including field sampling, data analysis, report writing, task management, cost estimation, proposal development, project implementation, and execution.
  • Experience implementing rigorous safety standards and ensuring compliance.
  • Experience working within a dynamic team framework, both in-person and in virtual settings.
  • Experience with environmental remediation systems (SVE, Excavation, ISCO, etc.).
  • Experience implementing various remedial strategies to achieve No Further Remediation.
  • Strong research and report writing skills (including web-based research).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong quality assurance and time management abilities.
  • Self-starter who develops and delivers work independently.
  • Strong attention to detail and a thorough approach to work.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare reports for projects regulated under the NCDEQ, including Assessment Reports, Groundwater Monitoring Reports, Site Check Reports, and UST System Removal and Replacement Reports.
  • Manage tasks and lead teams for field activities, including air, soil vapor, soil, and groundwater sample collection, geologic logging (unconsolidated sediments and bedrock), and data interpretation.
  • Utilize basic scientific principles, theories, practices, and existing technologies to develop remedial strategies for soil and groundwater impacts, including feasibility studies, removal action work plans, and remediation design plans.
  • Interpret and record data, conduct analyses, and compare findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Prepare and implement work plans, cost estimates, data compilation and analysis, and report preparation.
  • Prepare proposals and cost estimates for new opportunities.
  • Execute fieldwork by directing and overseeing individual or multiple contractors (laboratories, drillers, surveyors, excavation contractors).
  • Liaise with site facilities, subcontractors, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders.
  • Engage in health and safety planning and hazard recognition.
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills, being comfortable meeting with clients, regulatory case managers, colleagues, and subcontractors alike.
