About The Position

We are seeking a Project Manager to lead a dynamic team of Emergency Response/Preparedness and environmental professionals. This role involves mentoring the team, taking charge in environmental emergencies, and collaborating with clients and agencies for effective resolution. The position also includes business development and client expansion activities, leveraging expertise in environmental engineering, geology, or related fields. The ideal candidate will have over 5 years of project management experience, with a proven track record in emergency response, client relationship management, and business development. Responsibilities include environmental sampling and monitoring, and spearheading regional visibility initiatives. This is an opportunity to shape a sustainable future within our Emergency Management (GHD FIRST) team, potentially based in the Chicago office.

Requirements

  • Over 5 years of project management experience.
  • Proven track record in emergency response.
  • Proven track record in client relationship management.
  • Proven track record in business development.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or a related field.
  • Over 3 years to 6 years of general experience.
  • 7 to 12 months of managerial experience (general supervision of more junior colleagues).
  • Experienced in emergency preparedness.
  • Experienced in air monitoring.
  • Experienced in environmental assessment/sampling.
  • Experienced in ICS (Incident Command System).
  • Experienced in SCAT (Shoreline Clean-up Assessment Technique).
  • Experienced in PHMSA (Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration).
  • Exceptional communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with railroad and pipeline related emergencies a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a dynamic team of Emergency Response/Preparedness and environmental professionals.
  • Mentor and guide the team, taking the reins in environmental emergencies.
  • Collaborate closely with clients and agencies to ensure effective response and resolution.
  • Engage in business development and client expansion activities.
  • Conduct environmental sampling and monitoring.
  • Spearhead regional visibility initiatives.
  • Manage the implementation, reporting, and performance of projects, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to scope.
  • Prepare moderately complex documents and gather/summarize data for reports.
  • Plan and deliver stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Develop personal capabilities through assessment, development planning, training, and coaching.
  • Maintain an understanding of relevant technology, external regulation, and industry best practices.
  • Contribute to reviewing existing operations and generating ideas for continuous improvement.
  • Assign short-term work schedules to a team of subordinates.
  • Conduct assurance reviews within the project and facilitate reviews by independent third parties.
  • Manage the delivery of research, workshops, and other activities to support project deliverables.
  • Produce workstream or project plans.
  • Draft project review reports and presentations.
  • Manage the deployment of project resources, proactively managing project costs, providing forecasts, and presenting variances.
  • Identify and evaluate risks, issues, dependencies, and constraints associated with the project, escalating matters where appropriate.
  • Draft elements of product documentation and user training to support handover.
  • Contribute to post-project reviews and identification of lessons learned.
  • Lead a small project team, communicating outcomes and direction, coordinating team actions, and identifying areas for team improvement.
  • Coordinate the identification and elicitation of requirements, conduct analysis, document and manage requirements, and coordinate verification of the end deliverable.
  • Respond to call outs during non-routine working hours.
  • Act as the first point of contact for clients for new emergency projects, delegating tasks and requesting support from the GHD FIRST team as required.
