About The Position

The Southwest Florida Water Management District (District) is seeking an Environmental Scientist to join the Water Use Permit (WUP) Bureau. This role supports the mission of protecting water resources by reviewing the environmental aspects of water use permits to determine impacts from groundwater withdrawals. The successful candidate will analyze and interpret data, review environmental monitoring reports, and collaborate with various teams. This position offers a hybrid work schedule, requiring some on-site presence and the flexibility for remote work, with the condition that the employee must reside in Florida. Requirements

  • Bachelors degree (or higher) in Environmental Science or related field
  • Valid driver's license
  • Two (2) years related work experience (for Environmental Scientist 2)
  • Must live in Florida

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and interpret data to determine potential impacts from surface water or groundwater withdrawals.
  • Provide scientific and/or technical guidance, support, and coordination to management, internal staff, and other agencies.
  • Review required annual reports to ensure compliance with special conditions of water use permits.
  • Apply scientific information to Water Use Permit Regulations to determine compliance and make recommendations to permittees.
