About The Position

Stantec is looking for a driven Environmental Scientist to lead impactful work across the Gulf region. Join a team providing permitting strategy, environmental assessment and application preparation, and technical support for projects that require municipal, provincial/state, and federal environmental approvals and licenses. We help our clients identify constraints and respond to opportunities within the changing regulatory and corporate environment through active engagement with the public, stakeholder groups, and government regulators. Our team members are involved in a variety of projects that may include wetland delineations and permitting, endangered species habitat assessments and surveys, NEPA, siting and routing studies, stream assessments and sampling, habitat restoration, siting and zoning applications, and complex planning and permitting for a variety of industries including renewable energy, transportation, power, government, and development.

Requirements

  • Intermediate level understanding of technical environmental impact analysis methods related to state and federal environmental regulations.
  • Working knowledge of relevant state and federal agencies and associated regulations.
  • Demonstrated skill and commitment to QA/QC practices.
  • Demonstrated experience or willingness to manage multiple tasks and ability to motivate self and others to overcome obstacles and achieve goals.
  • Demonstrated ability in collaborative problem-solving with stakeholders, clients, and teammates.
  • Demonstrated leadership in striving to continuously improve technical performance.
  • Requires flexibility to travel as needed for project and fieldwork.
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in environmental science, biological resources or closely related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience providing or managing technical services in a professional services setting, preferably in Florida.
  • Local, state, and federal compliance and environmental permitting experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) or other applicable professional environmental certification (such as Authorized Gopher Tortoise Agent) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide natural resource assessment, permitting, and compliance services to support projects and key client relationships — from water resources, transportation, municipal capital improvement, natural gas pipelines, solar facilities, and other energy related projects, including professional interaction with clients.
  • Lead teams (with oversight from senior staff) that collect and report on tasks such as wetland delineations, threatened and endangered species habitat characterizations, land use mapping and vegetation cover classification, and other natural resource-focused surveys.
  • Coordinate agency communications, prepare technical assessments, and guide junior staff through successful execution of project tasks.
  • Lead permitting efforts including agency coordination at the local, state, and federal level following NEPA, Endangered Species Act (ESA), and Clean Water Act (CWA) compliance as well as applicable state regulations, with guidance and oversight by senior staff.
  • Assist with preparing work plans, assembling project teams, and ensuring compliance with scope and timely completion of tasks.
  • Establish and maintain quality assurance plans and safety plans for assigned projects.
  • Provide mentorship to early-career staff.
