About The Position

AtkinsRéalis's Minerals and Metals team in Canada is comprised of over 400 employees dedicated to supporting mining sustainability, pit-to-port opportunities, metallurgical plant engineering, and mine closure. They possess expertise in the study, design, and construction of mining projects across various methods and commodities, offering tailored solutions for projects of all sizes. The Tailings, Water and Environment team is seeking an Environmental Scientist/Engineer to contribute to mining environment projects. This role involves collaboration with multidisciplinary teams on both small and large-scale projects, domestically and internationally. Key responsibilities include environmental site assessment, remediation, risk management, and waste management for mining and metallurgical sites throughout their lifecycle (development, operations, decommissioning, closure, and monitoring). This position is based in Vancouver, BC.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in environmental site assessment, risk management, and remediation.
  • Proven expertise in developing environmental work plans, preparing cost estimates, coordinating and executing field data collection programs, supervising subcontractors, and conducting data analysis and technical report writing.
  • Proficiency in applying BC environmental regulatory legislation (EMA, CSR, HWR, etc.), with a thorough understanding of contaminated sites assessment, remediation protocols, and BC mining regulations (Mines Act, Health, Safety, and Reclamation Code).
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer or Geoscientist, or as an Engineer/Geologist-in-Training in BC, or be eligible for registration in any Canadian province.
  • Project management experience, with the ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously.

Nice To Haves

  • A focus on mining and/or metallurgical facilities (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience and knowledge of federal environmental regulations is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Project Managers and team members to meet client deliverables on time and within budget.
  • Coordinate and execute field programs on diverse sites (urban and remote), prioritizing health, safety, environment, and community.
  • Conduct intrusive investigations (drilling, test pitting), monitoring well installation, and various monitoring/sampling activities (groundwater, surface water, porewater, soil vapour).
  • Perform remedial excavations and other specified tasks, including subcontractor supervision.
  • Develop work plans, budgets, and schedules for contaminated sites investigation or remediation projects, particularly in the mining and industrial sectors.
  • Prepare technical reports (for senior review) detailing scope, execution methods, data interpretation, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Assist project managers with budget, schedule, communication, resource, HSE, and quality management.
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals in response to client requests, RFQs, and RFPs.
