About The Position

Arcadis is seeking an Environmental Scientist 1 to join their team. This role involves assisting Project Managers and Task Managers in planning and executing environmental site characterization, investigation, and remediation tasks. A significant part of the role includes fieldwork, where the individual will be trained to oversee drilling for soil sampling and groundwater well installation, groundwater sampling, subcontractor oversight, construction and operation and maintenance of remediation systems, and vapor intrusion/soil gas surveys. A strong focus on health and safety during fieldwork is essential. The position also involves office work such as task coordination, data compilation and interpretation, cost estimates, health & safety plan preparation, report writing, regulatory file reviews, proposal writing, project strategy development, schedule and budget management, and establishment of subcontracts. Fieldwork will require regional business travel for up to 4-5 days per week on average, with occasional travel within the U.S. for up to two weeks at a time. Requirements

BA or BS in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology or related field
Strong written and oral communication skills

Willing to work outside in all weather conditions and for extended periods
Ability to meet the physical demands associated with performing field work, including lifting heavy equipment, working in a standing position for extended periods of time

Nice To Haves

Experience with NCDEQ environmental regulations and SOPs
Current OSHA HAZWOPER 40 HR / 8 HR training
Previous industry, consulting, or regulatory internship experience
1 year experience in the field is preferred but not required

Responsibilities

Assisting Project Managers (PMs) and Task Managers (TMs) in planning and executing environmental site characterization, investigation, and remediation tasks.
Overseeing drilling for soil sampling and groundwater well installation.
Conducting groundwater sampling.
Subcontractor oversight.
Construction and operation and maintenance of remediation systems.
Performing vapor intrusion/soil gas surveys.
Conducting fieldwork with a focus on health and safety.
Writing and preparing technical reports, work plans, letters, and memoranda.
Task coordination.
Data compilation and interpretation.
Preparing cost estimates.
Health & safety plan preparation.
Regulatory file reviews.
Proposal writing.
Project strategy development.
Schedule and budget management.
Establishment of subcontracts.
Conduct field work including soil, groundwater, and/or vapor sampling in the field in accordance with North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
