About The Position

Arcadis is seeking an Environmental Scientist 1 to assist Project Managers (PMs) and Task Managers (TMs) in planning and executing environmental site characterization, investigation, and remediation tasks. This role involves significant fieldwork, including training to oversee drilling for soil sampling and groundwater well installation, groundwater sampling, subcontractor oversight, construction and operation and maintenance of remediation systems, and vapor intrusion/soil gas surveys. A strong focus on health and safety during fieldwork is essential. The position also includes office work such as task coordination, data compilation and interpretation, cost estimates, health & safety plan preparation, report writing, regulatory file reviews, proposal writing, project strategy development, schedule and budget management, and establishment of subcontracts. Fieldwork requires regional business travel up to 4-5 days per week on average, with occasional travel within the U.S. for up to two weeks at a time. Successful candidates will be adaptable, creative problem solvers, possess strong written and oral communication skills, be self-motivated, think independently, and work effectively both independently and in a team setting.

Requirements

BA or BS in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology or related field
Strong written and oral communication skills

Good driving record
Willing to work outside in all weather conditions and for extended periods
Ability to meet the physical demands associated with performing field work, including lifting heavy equipment, working in a standing position for extended periods of time, etc.
Field work may be performed at project sites with environmental media (e.g., soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, etc.) that has been impacted with either hazardous or non-hazardous substances and/or wastes.

Nice To Haves

Experience with NCDEQ environmental regulations and SOPs
Current OSHA HAZWOPER 40 HR / 8 HR training
Previous industry, consulting, or regulatory internship experience
1 year experience in the field is preferred but not required

Responsibilities

Assisting Project Managers (PMs) and Task Managers (TMs) in planning and executing environmental site characterization, investigation, and remediation tasks.
Overseeing drilling for soil sampling and groundwater well installation.
Conducting groundwater sampling.
Subcontractor oversight.
Construction and operation and maintenance of remediation systems.
Performing vapor intrusion/soil gas surveys.
Conducting fieldwork with a focus on health and safety.
Writing and preparing technical reports, work plans, letters, and memoranda.
Task coordination, data compilation and interpretation, cost estimates, health & safety plan preparation, report writing, regulatory file reviews, proposal writing, project strategy development, schedule and budget management, and establishment of subcontracts.
Conduct field work including soil, groundwater, and/or vapor sampling in the field in accordance with North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Performing regional business travel for up to 4-5 days per week on average.
Traveling within the U.S. for up to two weeks at a time, several times per year.
