About The Position

The Environmental Senior II (Natural Resources) is a key member of the Cultural and Natural Resources (CNR) Team, a collaborative group of scientists in the Environmental Services Department at SoCalGas. The team’s primary role is to support company projects through cultural and natural resource reviews, permitting, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. Teamwork and cross‑functional collaboration are central to the CNR team’s approach, working closely with project managers, planners, engineers, and agency partners to identify requirements early and keep projects on track. The Senior II leads regulatory tracking, delivers natural resource training, and helps set the tone for responsible environmental stewardship across the organization.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a 4 year degree in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • 8 years of related experience.
  • Ability to anticipate emerging environmental risks and trends.
  • Ability to balance scientific rigor with regulatory and business constraints.
  • Ability to operate autonomously on high-visibility scientific initiatives.
  • Knowledge of advanced environmental science methodologies and assessment frameworks.
  • Knowledge of cumulative impact analysis and risk evaluation techniques.
  • Skill in leading complex investigations, modeling efforts, or impact assessments.
  • Skill in synthesizing diverse datasets to support environmental decision-making.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Biology, Environmental Sciences, or closely related field is preferred.
  • Experience working with a network of agency contacts in a fast-paced corporate environment, project management, and coordinating diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience managing wildlife permitting (ITP/HCP) and aquatic permitting (401/404).
  • Comprehensive understanding of natural resource laws, regulations (such as 401/404/1600), and natural resource permitting requirements in Southern California.
  • Interpersonal awareness, enabling productive collaboration with stakeholders including consultants, agency staff, project and construction teams, and management is preferred.
  • Wetland Delineation Certificate through the Wetland Training Institute or similar organization.

Responsibilities

  • Manages wildlife and aquatic permitting, including Incidental Take Permits, Habitat Conservation Plans, Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreements, RGP 63, CWA 401/404 approvals, and directs associated technical studies and agency consultation.
  • Conducts and oversees natural resource field support, including monitoring and resource technical studies, and advises staff and contractors on mitigation requirements, resource impact avoidance and minimization, and compliance obligations.
  • Collaborates with consultants, agencies, project teams, construction crews, and management, providing guidance on wildlife protection, mitigation, and compliance expectations.
  • Executes programs to ensure regulatory obligations are met while optimizing costs and minimizing operational disruptions.
  • Provides technical expertise in leveraging GIS data for spatial analysis and visualization, ensuring adherence to industry standards and best practices.
  • Reviews environmental record keeping and reporting including data review and analysis, report preparation, report filing, agency notification, permit application review and input to regulatory comments.
  • Leads the conduct of research on how pollutants degrade in different environmental conditions and assess long-term ecological effects.
  • Leads the development of environmental processes, procedures and environmental awareness training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
