About The Position

Elk Valley Resources (EVR) operates four steelmaking coal mines that employ over 5,000 people in the Elk Valley of British Columbia. The high-quality steelmaking coal EVR produces is an essential input for steel that can be used for constructing products such as wind turbines and critical infrastructure including rail, bridges, hospitals and schools. This Environmental Science Co-op position offers an opportunity to participate in various environmental activities, including data management, on-site research, monitoring, and project management, contributing to the company's environmental reclamation and compliance efforts.

Requirements

  • Working towards an Undergraduate degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Forestry or Hydrology
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License or extra-provincial equivalent, without learner's restrictions
  • Able to operate vehicles at our operations, in various weather conditions and terrain
  • Motivated self-starters with the ability to manage several projects simultaneously
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic work environment with a willingness to work outdoors
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with a capability to communicate complex ideas to all levels and partners
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)

Responsibilities

  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
  • Update and manage environmental data and reporting in our Environmental Data Management System (EMS)
  • Assist with on-site research and development activities as well as monitoring, sampling, inspecting, and reporting for environmental reclamation and geotechnical compliance
  • Water movement tracking, water management and water treatment
  • Project Management tasks, including safety and contractor supervision, and project planning
  • Involvement in wildlife monitoring projects, and Biodiversity Management Plan updates
  • Create and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to help improve the way we do business
