About The Position

The State of Connecticut, Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), Bureau of Outdoor Recreation, State Parks and Public Outreach Division, has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Protection Park and Recreation Supervisor 1 at Squantz Pond in New Fairfield! This position is full-time, following a first shift schedule, 40 hours per week, and requires weekend duty for the active recreation season generally from Memorial Day to Labor Day, including holidays. The EP Park and Recreation Supervisor 1 is accountable for the operations and supervision of a small recreational unit. You will also assist in the operations and supervision of a large unit that may contain park, forests, wildlife management areas, historic sites, beaches, campsites, boating access areas, flood control structures and other facilities. This position is required to ensure adequate staffing, training, and management of the staff. The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is charged with conserving, improving and protecting the natural resources and the environment of the state of Connecticut as well as making cheaper, cleaner and more reliable energy available for the people and businesses of the state. The Bureau of Outdoor Recreation consists of the Divisions of Boating, State Parks & Public Outreach, and State Environmental Conservation Police. Together they administer the state’s outdoor recreation programs and provide for the enforcement of fish and game regulations and boating laws. Connecticut's system of state parks and forests, state boat launches, and waterways, provide many opportunities for outdoor recreation for residents and visitors alike. These range from camping and fishing to hiking, boating, and picnicking. The Bureaus of Outdoor Recreation and Natural Resources lead the agency's outdoor recreation efforts by acquiring and managing lands with an eye toward providing public use that is compatible with long term protection of natural resources.

Requirements

Five (5) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a public park or outdoor recreational facility.
College training in park management, outdoor recreation, leisure studies, forest recreation, natural resources management, public administration or a closely related field may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.
Willing and able to accept assignment or transfer to any unit of the state and may be required to reside in designated department housing under administrative control of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
Obtain and retain a Standard First Aid Certificate and CPR certificate.
May be required to possess and retain a current State Boating Safety certificate.
May be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license.

Responsibilities

Schedules, assigns, oversees and reviews the work of staff
Provides staff training and assistance
Conducts performance evaluations
Determines priorities and plans unit work
Establishes and maintains unit procedures
Develops or makes recommendations on development of policies and standards
Acts as liaison with other operating units, agencies and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures
Supervises operation, programs and maintenance activities within a designated recreational unit
Manages or assists in managing unit business activities including purchase requisitions, inventories, revenue deposits and time and attendance reports
Participates on forest fire suppression crews and boundary maintenance
Acts as departmental liaison to the public
Prepares necessary reports (e.g. payroll, public attendance records, evaluations, accident and vandalism reports, stores requisitions)
Prepares and supervises unit development projects
Identifies, prioritizes, assigns and supervises maintenance projects
Hires and trains seasonal personnel
Performs emergency first aid
May enforce laws and regulations concerning use of parks and recreational facilities
Performs related duties as required
