About The Position

The Department of Environmental Quality/Office of Environmental Services has a vacancy for an Environmental Project Specialist. The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality’s (LDEQ) mission is to provide service to the people of Louisiana through comprehensive environmental protection in order to promote and protect health, safety, and welfare. This Environmental Project Specialist vacancy is in the Billing and Invoice Management Section of the Financial Services Division. This position requires a basic understanding of accounting, customer service skills, and organizational skills. The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality assesses fees for the issuance and maintenance of permits, licenses, registrations, certifications, and other environmental activities. An ideal candidate should possess the following competencies: Building and Supporting Teams: The ability to combine one's actions and efforts with others to work toward achieving a common goal. Demonstrating Accountability: The ability to take ownership of actions, behaviors, performance, decisions, and outcomes. Making Accurate Judgments: The ability to assess options, weigh risks, and make sound decisions using available information and logical reasoning.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience in an environmental, natural resource management, or regulatory enforcement program; OR Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR A bachelor’s degree.
  • Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Responsibilities

  • Process Regulatory Fee Invoices and any necessary account adjustments.
  • Understand and communicate the regulatory requirements for different activities in the state and the fees associated with those activities.
  • Communicate with the public to resolve any invoicing issues that may arise primarily through phone calls, emails, and letters.
  • Coordinate the resolution of outstanding problems with inaccurate permitting data and facility information such as mailing addresses and contact information.
