About The Position

Join HGL’s growing team in California as an Environmental Project Manager II. The successful candidate will serve as the Deputy Project Manager for a multi-year environmental investigation, restoration, and long-term management project at NASA’s Ames Research Center. This full-time, hybrid position is based out of our Pleasanton, CA office, with an expectation of 2-3 in-office days per week and occasional project-related travel. In this role, the successful candidate will support critical environmental restoration efforts while also contributing to HGL’s broader portfolio of complex environmental projects across multiple clients and programs. The ideal candidate is a collaborative and technically strong project management professional who thrives in a dynamic, client-focused environment and enjoys balancing management with hands-on project execution. This role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact through leadership, technical problem solving, and coordination of multidisciplinary teams, all while advancing HGL’s mission of delivering innovative environmental solutions that protect human health and the environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum 6+ years of directly related experience executing and managing investigation and remediation projects under CERCLA and RCRA, including oversight of project teams, management of budget, schedule, safety, quality, technical performance, and customer satisfaction.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or a related academic field.
  • Excellent time management and organization skills, including the ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize and keep organized to ensure timely and accurate work.
  • Ability to build consensus among leadership, internal, and external stakeholders through effective interpersonal communication and relationship building skills.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD, PE, PG, and/or PMP certifications for California.
  • MA/MS in a related field.
  • Experience working with federal clients, including NASA and/or EPA Region 9.
  • Work experience in the western United States.
  • Prior experience on PFAS projects.

Responsibilities

  • Management of technical and administrative aspects of CERCLA RI/FS, RD/RA, operations and maintenance (O&M), and/or long-term monitoring (LTM) or RCRA equivalent phases of environmental restoration projects.
  • Meeting project scope, schedule, budget requirements.
  • Directing, managing, and leading project teams to meet objectives in-line with corporate and customer quality expectations.
  • Mentoring of Junior Staff, Deputy Project Managers, and other staff in the proper execution of projects, preparation of deliverables, and engineering activities.
  • Communicating effectively with clients, regulators, project team members, and company management.
  • Effectively manage project risks and develop mitigation approaches and strategies.
  • Supporting business development efforts, including leading or supporting proposal efforts.
