About The Position

Kimley-Horn's Salt Lake City, Utah (UT) office is seeking an Environmental Planner with 2+ years of experience to join their Environmental Planning team. This is not a remote position. The role involves preparing Environmental Quality Act documents, environmental impact reports, and negative and mitigated negative declarations. It also includes assisting with Specific Plans, Master Plans, and other environmental or planning policy documents to support a variety of infill and land development projects. The position requires performing diverse tasks, supporting project managers, and collaborating with team members. Potential areas of expertise to be gained include sustainability, climate action planning, ENVISION, LEED, and Salmon-Safe, as well as environmental clearance associated with local comprehensive plans and land use planning, and working with infrastructure projects across industries like transportation, transit, land planning, and aviation.

Requirements

  • Degree (Bachelors or Masters) in Environmental Planning (or other degree applicable to the planning field)
  • 2+ years of experience conducting environmental studies for local agencies and private entities
  • Understanding of the agencies involved with the Environmental Quality Act process as well as the state's Land Planning Law
  • Strong writing/verbal skills
  • Working knowledge of GIS/ArcView
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
  • Positive attitude and a strong work ethic
  • Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines
  • Detail-oriented team player with an ability to contribute to a positive work environment
  • Ability to work independently and as a team

Nice To Haves

  • American Institute of Certified Planner (AICP) Certification Preferred
  • Experience with a wide range of tasks related to environmental planning
  • Experience with NEPA compliance is a plus

Responsibilities
