About The Position

WSP is seeking an Early Career Environmental Planner to join its Environmental and Social Impact Assessment Team. The ideal candidate will provide technical environmental planning assistance to assess the environmental impacts of various projects across the country. This role involves supporting the development of environmental evaluations and reports, learning about environmental impact assessments (NEPA), public involvement, data collection and analysis, and report preparation. This position is suitable for individuals familiar with the NEPA process, possessing strong writing skills, a good work ethic, and a genuine interest in career growth within a professional team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental planning or policy, environmental science, biological science, geology or water resources, natural resources, or a related field.
  • 0 to 1 years of relevant environmental or planning experience.
  • Strong oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent writing skills (Must be prepared to provide a recent sample of a professional-level paper).
  • Effective analytical skills and prior experience with research techniques and data collection.
  • Knowledge of relevant environmental laws, permitting requirements, and applicable Regional/State/Federal regulatory framework.
  • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Familiarity with office automation and communication software, technology, and document formatting and management (i.e., Microsoft, Adobe Professional, Google Earth).
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Moderate proficiency with business writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree is preferred.
  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
  • Prior internship related to the line of work.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparing NEPA environmental assessments and environmental impact statements, impact assessments, environmental survey reports, data entry, and permitting documentation.
  • Assist with field and desktop collection, identification, and compilation of observational, spatial, operations, and environmental data.
  • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate data analysis.
  • Perform basic professional environmental planning work relating to ecological systems, habitats, air, and water resources.
  • Verify the characteristics of a site and provide entry-level technical assistance on environmental issues.
  • Utilize the latest technologies and techniques in performing studies and analysis of habitats, sites, and potential impacts.
  • Support preparation for and participation in client meetings and public information meetings.
  • Organize public comment databases and review and respond to public comments.
  • Complete training and meet project schedules on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct.
  • Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
