About The Position

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Environmental Planner for our Richmond, VA office. This role involves assisting staff in energy infrastructure siting and routing projects. Responsibilities include gathering background data, preparing maps, documenting findings for clients and agencies, participating in public meetings, conducting windshield surveys, and preparing defensible reports on the siting process. The role also involves liaising with governmental agencies, clients, and team members, researching permitting requirements, and assisting with field reviews to determine suitable project sites. The Environmental Planner will interface with internal Project Managers, staff, clients, and sub-contractors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, or related degree
  • 1-3 years of experience
  • Knowledge and interest in federal, state, and local environmental policy and regulation
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team and collaborative environment
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite of programs (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Self-starter willing to tackle a variety of tasks simultaneously
  • Strong organizational and writing skills, attention to detail, and critical thinking skills
  • Willing to do some travel for site visits and attend public open house meetings
  • High level of motivation, positive attitude, willingness to learn and take on responsibility
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

Responsibilities

  • Assist staff in energy infrastructure siting and routing projects

  • Prepare siting and routing maps
  • Participate in meetings to document findings to clients and/or agencies
  • Participate in public open house meetings
  • Conduct windshield surveys of proposed sites and/or routes
  • Document the siting process into a defensible report
  • Liaison with various governmental agencies, clients, and team members
  • Prepare siting reports that document the siting process and why a site or route was selected
  • Research local, state, and federal permitting requirements
  • Assist staff in field reviews and investigations to determine suitable project site locations
  • Interface with internal Project Managers, staff, clients, and sub-contractors
