The Port Alberni, British Columbia, Canada location is seeking an Environmental Lab Technician for a full-time temporary position to cover a twelve (12) month leave, from May 20, 2026, to May 20, 2027. Reporting to the Environmental Manager, the incumbent will perform a wide variety of laboratory-based tasks to support the operation and facility. These tasks include collecting samples, testing, measuring, recording, and analyzing data for quality control, process control, and troubleshooting. The role also involves maintaining records, preparing, and communicating reports, and adhering to lab, test, and health and safety procedures. Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in Environmental Technology, Chemical Technology, Pulp & Paper Technology, Chemistry, or related field
  • Knowledge of process and effluent sampling
  • Knowledge of laboratory methods
  • Knowledge of instrument calibration
  • High degree of numerical aptitude
  • Proficiency in various personal computer applications, including hands-on experience in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Well organized
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team environment with minimum supervision
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Ability to lift up 40lbs
  • Ability to perform field sampling in varied weather conditions
  • Ability to perform fielding sampling on a boat in the Alberni Inlet
  • Demonstrate a positive work ethic
  • Ability to work and communicate successfully in a team environment, with minimal supervision
  • Commitment to workplace safety
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
