About The Position

The Chemist performs chemical analyses of various types of hazardous and non-hazardous waste to determine compliant treatment and disposal, using a variety of analytical techniques and instruments. This role involves performing preparation techniques and instrumental analysis of environmental samples for the determination of organic and inorganic constituents using approved EPA test methods and Republic Services Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Work Instructions (WI). The position also includes participation in the generation of SOPs and Work Instructions (WI) under supervision, preparing samples for laboratory equipment, and utilizing essential functions for instrument sequencing and data processing. This includes performing basic instrument maintenance and repairs, preparing analytical standards, and maintaining accurate documentation. The Chemist validates methods for testing organic and inorganic content, performs Initial Demonstration of Capability (IDOC) and annual Demonstration of Capability (DOC) for methods, identifies chemical content of materials, researches appropriate treatment studies, and provides technical knowledge for problem-solving. A clean and safe work environment, familiarity with quality control measures, and other related duties as assigned are also part of this role.
