About The Position

Environmental Science Associates (ESA) is hiring interns for its Florida Environmental Internship program in Winter and Summer 2027. This approximately four-month, paid, variable part-time internship offers 12–24 hours per week and is hosted by the Biological Resources & Land Management (BRLM) environmental market in ESA’s Tampa, Florida office. Interns must be currently enrolled in university or be recent graduates, including graduate students. Priority will be given to applicants able to work in person or hybrid from the Tampa office for engagement, training, and mentorship; the qualifications also state that interns must be able to work from the office for the duration of the internship. The program seeks to promote diversity in environmental, engineering, and planning fields, particularly by creating opportunities for students from groups historically under-represented in the sector. Interns will apply and expand knowledge gained through education or experience in areas such as environmental regulations, local planning and environmental requirements, field assignments, public outreach, technical and business work products, data analysis and research, and project or marketing support. Work may also include data entry and database management, drafting and proofreading documents, communicating with teams and supervisors, participating in virtual meetings, and completing other assignments as needed. Some duties involve fieldwork in varied conditions and environments, including remote, rural, urban, coastal, and construction settings. Field assignments may require walking long distances with a backpack, lifting at least 40 pounds, traversing uneven or steep terrain and obstacles, and safely operating, loading, or transporting equipment. A valid driver’s license and experience driving 4WD vehicles off-road are listed among the qualifications. Some night or weekend work may be required. The role may also involve prolonged desk and computer work in an office setting.
