About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented professional to join our team as an Environmental Inspector. This position plays a vital role in protecting the County's natural resources, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and supporting safe, sustainable development through inspections, education, and collaboration.

Requirements

  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Any combination of four (4) years of college education or construction experience related to earthwork, erosion and sediment control, or drainage.
  • Minimum of three (3) to four (4) years of practical work experience related to earthwork, erosion and sediment control, or drainage.
  • Must possess or obtain within one (1) year of employment the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Certification as an erosion and sediment control inspector/storm water inspector.
  • Must have the ability to accurately read and interpret codes, ordinances, site plans, and specifications and complete daily field reports.
  • Ability to utilize computer systems, inspection software, mapping tools, and other job-specific applications to document findings and complete work assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Implement field quality control, code enforcement, and engineering plan review functions to support the County’s erosion and sediment control program and stormwater program.
  • Review construction plans, profiles, site plans, erosion and sediment control plans, stormwater plans, and the Stormwater Pollution Protection Plan (SWPPP).
  • Perform final inspections to ensure that building sites, including residential structures, have been adequately graded to properly divert stormwater.
  • Coordinate with internal and external departments and agencies.
  • Assist the Public Works Director in responding to stormwater complaints, alleviating the problems where appropriate and recommending a course of action to the Director where necessary.
  • Inspect site grading, including erosion and sediment control, and the implementation of stormwater management Best Management Practices (BMPs).
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
