About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented professional to join our team as an Environmental Inspector. This position plays a vital role in protecting the County's natural resources, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and supporting safe, sustainable development through inspections, education, and collaboration.

Requirements

Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Any combination of four (4) years of college education or construction experience related to earthwork, erosion and sediment control, or drainage.
Minimum of three (3) to four (4) years of practical work experience related to earthwork, erosion and sediment control, or drainage.
Must possess or obtain within one (1) year of employment the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Certification as an erosion and sediment control inspector/storm water inspector.
Must have the ability to accurately read and interpret codes, ordinances, site plans, and specifications and complete daily field reports.
Ability to utilize computer systems, inspection software, mapping tools, and other job-specific applications to document findings and complete work assignments.

Responsibilities

Implement field quality control, code enforcement, and engineering plan review functions to support the County’s erosion and sediment control program and stormwater program.
Review construction plans, profiles, site plans, erosion and sediment control plans, stormwater plans, and the Stormwater Pollution Protection Plan (SWPPP).
Perform final inspections to ensure that building sites, including residential structures, have been adequately graded to properly divert stormwater.
Coordinate with internal and external departments and agencies.
Assist the Public Works Director in responding to stormwater complaints, alleviating the problems where appropriate and recommending a course of action to the Director where necessary.
Inspect site grading, including erosion and sediment control, and the implementation of stormwater management Best Management Practices (BMPs).
Perform related duties as assigned.
