About The Position

The Hampton Roads Connector Partners JV (HRCP) is seeking an Environmental Inspector to provide technical input on environmental monitoring and design or construction methods to ensure compliance with environmental specifications and regulatory standards. This role is crucial for the $3.3BN Design Build project, the largest civil construction contract ever awarded by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). The project involves constructing a new 3.5-mile bridge-tunnel crossing, replacing existing marine approach bridges, and adding a third lane on I-64 in each direction across a 9-mile section. The twin 45’ diameter 1.5-mile tunnels will be bored by TBM. This is an opportunity to bring diverse ideas to build stronger, more resilient communities and transform your career.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering or an environmental related field required.
  • 3+ years’ experience or training in environmental regulatory and construction industry compliance preferred.
  • Knowledge of the local regulations or skill sets related to the specific work on project
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and new legislation
  • Technical writing and communication skills
  • Able to lead a team or project effort.
  • Able to manage subcontractors for project specific specialty environmental work.

Nice To Haves

  • Environmental certification preferred.
  • CPESC Certification (CA QSP) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Audits, analyzes, and reports environmental performance to clients and regulatory bodies.
  • Advises design and construction teams on minimizing environmental impacts.
  • Manages subcontractors for specific environmental tasks.
  • Conducts impact assessments to mitigate environmental risks and costs.
  • Prepares environmental reports for supervisor and leadership review.
  • Raises awareness of emerging environmental issues across the organization and engages in environmental education and research.
  • Coordinates public hearings and consultations on environmental matters.
  • Trains staff on environmental responsibilities.
