About The Position

Support the scientists, engineers, technicians, and operators who make spaceflight possible. As an Environmental Health Specialist supporting NASA Kennedy Space Center, you'll perform hands-on industrial hygiene fieldwork across launch facilities, laboratories, industrial shops, and operational environments while building a career in one of the nation's most prestigious mission-driven programs. Under the guidance of the Environmental Health Supervisor, the Environmental Health Specialist will perform duties within the field of Industrial Hygiene to support the Environmental Health Program at NASA Kennedy Space Center (KSC), Cape Canaveral Space Force Station (CCSFS) and Patrick Space Force Base (PSFB). This position performs field work for various types of industrial hygiene surveys under the direction of Industrial Hygienists. The position involves the use and operation of various types of industrial hygiene (IH) instruments such as sound level meters, velometers, integrated air sampling equipment in addition to writing technical reports. This position is represented by the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW).

Requirements

  • Highschool Diploma.
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office Programs.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, have the ability to drive various vehicles, and be eligible for a federal security clearance.
  • Must be able to work in confined/enclosed spaces and areas, wear fully enclosed protective suits, and must be able to work at heights for an extended period.
  • Flexible schedule for potential for working off shift, overtime, and to support hurricane preparedness; Flexible schedule to assist with coordinating IH response to incidents including spills, hazardous operations, hurricane or other potential emergency responses.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects at one time.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct industrial hygiene evaluations by collecting and preparing samples for analysis, updating applicable databases, and maintaining records and writing technical reports.
  • Prepare, sets up, calibrate, and operate electronic and/or mechanical sample collection or testing devices as required to support program responsibilities.
  • Ensures monitoring equipment is calibrated and properly maintained.
  • Performs and/or assists with any departmental operations, as required, or directed to maintain workflow.
  • Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition. Ensures safe operating conditions within area of responsibility. Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Properly manages by-products, which may include hazardous wastes, resultant from workplace activities; specific responsibilities may include proper waste segregation, containerization, handling, and following site-specific workplace instructions.
  • Performs administrative duties as required to fulfill program or contractual requirements related to designated area of specialty, including record keeping, inventory maintenance, supply requisition, database maintenance and similar duties as assigned.
