This position is in Waynesboro, GA and does not offer relocation assistance. Must be within a reasonable commuting distance. As a Environmental Health Specialist with Burke County Health Department, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways. Requirements

  • Completion of a Masters degree.
  • Current registration as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) or Registered Sanitarian (RS) by the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA), or the recognized credentialing board of a sate or country having equivalent standards as NEHA.
  • One year of full-time professional level environmental health experience equivalent to an Environmental Health Specialist I.
  • Must have attended and completed the Georgia Environmental Health Specialist Training.
  • One year of full-time professional level environmental health experience equivalent to an Environmental Health Specialist II.
  • Must have attended and completed the Georgia Environmental Health Specialist Training.

Responsibilities

  • Performs environmental health inspections for the Burke County Health Department and recommends enforcement actions as needed.
  • Investigates complaints and provides environmental health education and technical assistance to the general public, regulated community and officials.
  • Assists in the implementation of countywide programs for compliance, monitoring, enforcement, and corrective action in conjunction with environmental health laws, rules and regulations.
  • May serve as compliance officer and liaison between Public Health agencies and facilities, municipalities, institutions, organizations and county and state agencies.
  • Interprets Local, State, and Federal environmental health laws and regulations.
  • Primary duties include permitting and inspection of food service establishments, tourist accommodations, public swimming pools, on-site wastewater management systems and the carrying out of the rabies control program.
  • All East Central Health District 6 employees are deemed essential workers in the event of an emergency. As such, you may be called on to participate in an event including but not limited to: staffing a shelter, working at a Specimen Point of Collection Site (SPOC) and/or working at a Point of Dispensing site (POD). If you are called on to participate, you are required to report to the designated site as a condition of employment, whether the emergency occurs during or outside regular work hours.
