Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university which included the completion of 27 semester hours (or 40 quarter hours) in laboratory sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, geology, physics, etc.)
  • One year of experience at the lower level PH Environmental Health Specialist 1 (RCP120) or position equivalent (for Environmental Health Specialist 2)
  • One year of experience at the lower level PH Environmental Health Specialist 2 (RCP121) or position equivalent (for Environmental Health Specialist 3)

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of all required Georgia Department of Public Health Environmental Health training programs.
  • Current Georgia Environmental Health Inspector certifications, including Level I and applicable specialty certifications.
  • Current Georgia Standardized Food Service Establishment Inspection Officer credential.
  • Current Food Safety Manager and nationally recognized swimming pool operator certifications.
  • Current certifications in Bloodborne Pathogens, First Aid, CPR, and FEMA IS-100.
  • Certified Healthy Homes Specialist and Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Provide inspection/permitting/consultation for compliance of state rules and regulations for the Monroe County Environmental Health Program for the following facilities within the county: Food Service, Public Swimming Pools, Tourist Accommodations, and Body Art.
  • Provide services within Wastewater Management, Well Water, Emergency Preparedness, and other environmental health programs.
  • Investigate all assigned health-related complaints received.
  • Interprets regulatory issues, technical issues, and analytical data to document compliance.
  • Investigate complaints, provide environmental education and technical assistance.
  • Perform inspections, interviews, technical reviews and recommend enforcement actions as needed.
  • Plan and conduct facility audits and inspections.
  • Prepare sampling plan and collect samples in accordance with established procedures.
  • Provide information to the public, regulated community, and enforcement officers regarding the environmental laws and regulations.
  • Respond to environmental emergencies and conduct safety evaluations.
  • Review permit applications; drafts, modifies and issues permits in accordance with the rules, regulations, and established procedures.
  • Review permit requirements and regulations to ensure compliance with state and federal environmental laws.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
