The Orange County Health Department has an opening for an Environmental Health Specialist - Preparedness Coordinator. The work involves the responsibility for reviewing and revising the Orange County Health Department’s Public Health Emergency Operation Plans through coordination with local, regional, State, and Federal response agencies and exercises and evaluates emergency plans through collaboration with partner agencies. An employee of this class is primarily responsible for performing professional environmental health work with wells and septic systems. Work includes the promotion of public health through education, surveillance, consultation, inspection, and enforcement of Federal, State and local environmental health laws and regulations. Work is performed under the general direction of the Environmental Health Supervisor with considerable leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work, and in making decisions regarding customer needs and requests and conducting project assignments. Supervision over others is not required of this position. Position does related work as required.
