Inspect, monitor and enforce established health codes, regulations and ordinances for the Environmental Health Department's Consumer Health Protection Division. This role involves conducting inspections of assigned facilities for code and regulatory conformance, operating technical equipment, interpreting data, identifying and evaluating new and unusual situations based on professional knowledge, and disseminating environmental health information to industry, the general public, and other agencies. The primary goal is to reduce the risk and severity of public exposure to environmental health hazards. The position performs a variety of professional and technical tasks in support of the assigned division. Essential functions include ensuring compliance with applicable laws, detecting community environmental health hazards, developing policies, conducting inspections, issuing citations, developing survey instruments, investigating complaints, consulting with non-compliant parties, reviewing permit applications, maintaining records, operating specialized technical equipment, and coordinating activities with other agencies. Specific duties when assigned to the Consumer Health Protection Division include inspecting public swimming pools/spas, food establishments (including HACCP principles), responding to noise complaints, and enforcing the City's noise ordinance. Supplemental functions include attending professional meetings, staying updated on trends, using and maintaining electronic databases, and performing related duties.
