About The Position

The EHS Technician is responsible for supporting and maintaining a safe, healthy, and environmentally compliant work environment at the Aspen Aerogels East Providence facility, which is regulated under OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements. This role assists with the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) programs, policies, inspections, training, and regulatory compliance activities. The EHS Technician works closely with operations, facilities, laboratory, maintenance, and management teams to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, state, and local regulations while promoting a strong safety culture throughout the site.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of EHS or industrial safety experience in a manufacturing, industrial, laboratory, or similar environment preferred.
  • Relevant safety certifications preferred (OSHA 30-hour, CPR/First Aid, Hazardous Waste, etc.).
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, business documents, and governmental regulations.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and injury prevention.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect manufacturing, laboratory, and facility areas for waste and other regulated materials.
  • Collect, package, label, and prepare wastes for shipment in accordance with applicable shipping and environmental regulations.
  • Coordinate waste shipments, maintain shipping documentation, and submit records to EHS leadership.
  • Support chemical inventory management and reporting requirements.
  • Perform air permit equipment inventories and support environmental compliance reporting.
  • Support waste reduction, recycling, and sustainability initiatives, including tracking energy, water, and waste metrics.
  • Conduct routine EHS inspections and audits of manufacturing, laboratory, warehouse, office, and outdoor areas to identify hazards, unsafe conditions, and compliance gaps.
  • Perform monthly and weekly inspections including but not limited to: Fire extinguisher inspections, Eyewash and emergency shower inspections, First aid kit and AED inspections, Facility walkthroughs.
  • Identify unsafe conditions, safety violations, and opportunities for improvement, and report findings to the EHS Supervisor or Manager.
  • Assist with compliance audits and support corrective action implementation.
  • Support implementation and maintenance of EHS policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, ISO, and other applicable regulations and standards.
  • Maintain inspection records, compliance documentation, training records, and regulatory reporting files.
  • Assist with Lockout/Tagout, Respiratory Protection, Confined Space, Hot Work, Line Break, Fork Truck Safety, Fall Protection, PPE, and other site safety programs.
  • Review, approve, and audit hot work permits and job safety analyses (JSAs) for designated tasks.
  • Maintain the site Safety Compliance Calendar and support required regulatory submissions.
  • Support emergency response planning, evacuation drills, emergency exercises, and preparedness activities.
  • Maintain emergency equipment, evacuation maps, assembly area signage, and emergency response supplies.
  • Attend and support EHS training programs and safety meetings.
  • Provide EHS-related training and safety guidance as directed.
  • Audit pre-shift safety meetings for compliance and effectiveness.
  • Track employee training records and certifications.
  • Communicate safety updates, reminders, and best practices through meetings, postings, and other communication methods.
  • Promote a positive safety culture and build strong working relationships across all departments.
  • Participate in incident investigations and root cause analysis activities as directed.
  • Maintain records related to workplace incidents, inspections, corrective actions, and safety performance metrics.
  • Monitor the use, condition, and availability of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Order, distribute, inventory, and maintain safety equipment and supplies.
  • Support management and safekeeping of emergency and health-related PPE supplies.
