About The Position

Ramar Foods is seeking a proactive, hands-on Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to strengthen workplace safety performance, reduce injury frequency, improve reporting accountability, and support a culture where safety is embedded into daily operations. This role is responsible for driving safety compliance, leading investigations, improving near-miss and injury reporting practices, reducing workers’ compensation exposure, and partnering closely with leaders across operations, warehouse, production, and support teams. The EHS Specialist will serve as both a strategic partner and operational resource, helping leaders identify risks early, implement corrective actions quickly, and reinforce accountability at all levels of the organization. This position supports onsite operations in Pittsburg, CA, while also providing virtual support and guidance to additional company locations and out-of-state operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Human Resources, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive workplace safety experience in manufacturing, food manufacturing, distribution, or industrial environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Cal/OSHA regulations and workplace safety standards.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Experience managing or supporting workers’ compensation or return-to-work programs.
  • Experience delivering employee and leadership training.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to influence leaders and employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to walk production floors and warehouse environments for extended periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures, including refrigerated and warehouse environments.
  • Ability to wear required PPE and access operational areas safely.

Nice To Haves

  • Food manufacturing experience is strongly preferred.
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred.
  • First Aid/CPr certification preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting multi-site operations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and reinforce a proactive safety culture across all departments and levels of the organization.
  • Partner with leaders and employees to improve safety awareness, accountability, and engagement.
  • Act as a visible safety presence on the production floor and in operational areas.
  • Lead and facilitate Safety Committee meetings and related initiatives.
  • Support leadership in building trust and encouraging timely reporting of injuries, unsafe conditions, and near misses.
  • Ensure compliance with Cal/OSHA regulations and applicable federal, state, and local safety requirements.
  • Maintain safety documentation, logs, records, and required postings.
  • Support company readiness for inspections, audits, and regulatory reviews.
  • Monitor changes in environmental health and safety regulations and recommend operational updates as needed.
  • Assist with environmental compliance initiatives and required reporting activities.
  • Lead investigations related to workplace injuries, incidents, and near misses.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and develop actionable corrective and preventative measures.
  • Track corrective actions to completion and hold departments accountable to required timelines.
  • Identify incident trends and recommend data-driven improvements to reduce risk exposure.
  • Partner with supervisors to improve timely and accurate incident reporting practices.
  • Support workers’ compensation administration and injury management processes.
  • Coordinate with managers, medical providers, and third-party administrators on claims management and return-to-work efforts.
  • Assist with modified duty and return-to-work programs to reduce lost time and claim costs.
  • Monitor workers’ compensation trends and identify opportunities for cost reduction and injury prevention.
  • Conduct routine facility inspections, safety audits, hazard assessments.
  • Identify unsafe conditions, behaviors, and operational risks.
  • Develop recommendations to reduce exposure and improve overall workplace safety.
  • Monitor completion and effectiveness of corrective actions.
  • Participate in ergonomics, PPE, machine safety, forklift, lockout/tagout, and other safety initiatives.
  • Deliver safety training for employees, supervisors, and managers.
  • Support onboarding safety orientation for new hires.
  • Refresh and modernize existing training materials and programs.
  • Facilitate ongoing safety awareness campaigns and micro-training initiatives.
  • Maintain training records and compliance documentation.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Warehouse, Production, Maintenance, Quality and Leadership teams.
  • Provide guidance and recommendations on operational safety concerns and risk mitigation.
  • Support company initiatives focused on accountability, operational discipline, and continuous improvement.
  • Travel occasionally to support other company locations as needed.
