About The Position

We are seeking a hands-on Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist to support our field operations across the West. In this role, you will own safety across a group of hubs where vehicles are received, inspected, repaired, cleaned, staged, and handed to members, and execute the company's environmental program at your sites. You will run site inspections, investigate incidents, keep waste handling and environmental records inspection-ready, deliver training, and serve as the EHS partner to site leadership. California brings its own safety obligations, including a written Injury and Illness Prevention Program, workplace violence prevention, and heat illness prevention, and you will own their implementation at your sites. This role is field-based, with most of your time spent in shop bays and lots rather than at a desk, and requires regular travel across assigned sites.

Requirements

• 3+ years of hands-on EHS experience in automotive service, collision or reconditioning, fleet, manufacturing, distribution, or a comparable industrial environment, including experience under Cal/OSHA requirements.
• Working knowledge of Cal/OSHA general industry standards, including IIPP implementation, and site-level hazardous waste handling requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to run incident investigations to root cause and drive corrective actions to closure.
• Experience training and influencing front-line employees and their leaders, including people who do not report to you.
• Strong documentation and recordkeeping discipline, since much of this work is provable only on paper.
• Willingness to travel regularly across assigned sites (40–50%).
• Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record (per company standards).

Nice To Haves

• Certification such as ASP, CSP, GSP, CHMM, or OSHA 30 General Industry.
• Experience supporting a multi-site network rather than a single facility.
• Experience standing up EHS programs at a new facility from the design phase.
• Familiarity with vehicle lifts, tire and wheel service, EV high-voltage safety, and lot and yard traffic management.
• Experience implementing SB 553 workplace violence prevention plans or Cal/OSHA heat illness prevention programs.
• Experience with respiratory protection programs, spray booth compliance, or paint and refinish operations.

Responsibilities

• Own and maintain the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) at your sites, including hazard assessment, correction procedures, training records, and demonstrable implementation.
• Own the Workplace Violence Prevention Plan (SB 553) at your sites, including training and the violent incident log.
• Own heat illness prevention for outdoor lot work and indoor shop environments, including water, shade, cool-down, acclimatization, high-heat procedures, and emergency response.
• Manage Cal/OSHA compliance, including serious injury reporting within required timeframes, Form 300/300A recordkeeping and posting, and inspection response support.
• Own day-to-day execution of safety programs across assigned sites, including hazard communication, lockout/tagout, vehicle lifts and powered equipment, fall and lift hazards, PPE, emergency action and fire prevention, and first aid/bloodborne pathogens.
• Conduct routine site safety inspections and audits, tracking findings to closure against named owners and due dates.
• Partner with site leads and Parts & Service Specialists, who carry secondary EHS responsibility at hub level, to build local capability.
• Execute the company environmental program at your sites, following the standards, playbooks, and inspection checklists set by the Environmental Programs Manager.
• Conduct site-level environmental inspections covering waste accumulation and storage areas, container condition and labeling, secondary containment, and wash and drainage areas, correcting or escalating findings.
• Keep site environmental records current and inspection-ready, including waste manifests, training documentation, and inspection logs for used motor oil, coolant, brake fluid, detailing chemicals, waste tires, and 12V lead-acid batteries.
• Coordinate waste pickups with approved haulers and verify handling matches program requirements.
• Support regulatory agency inspections at your sites in coordination with the Environmental Programs Manager, who owns permits, registrations, and agency relationships.
• Maintain SDS access, chemical inventories, and approved-chemical controls at site level.
• Respond to injuries, near misses, property damage, and environmental releases, leading root cause investigation and driving corrective actions to verified closure.
• Partner with Human Resources and the workers' compensation carrier on claim intake, restricted-duty and return-to-work coordination, and injury trend analysis.
• Report incident and leading-indicator performance to Operations leadership, including trends and open corrective actions.
• Deliver and track required EHS training, including new hire onboarding, role-specific certifications, and refresher cycles, maintaining audit-ready records.
• Coach site leads and managers on safety conversations, toolbox talks, and observation programs so that standards hold consistently across the team.
• Serve as EHS reviewer for new site launches in partnership with Launch & Facilities, covering pre-occupancy inspections, life safety and egress, equipment commissioning, and day-one program readiness.
• Advise on facility layout, chemical storage, ventilation, lift and equipment placement, and yard traffic and pedestrian separation during the design phase.
• Support expansion projects as the network grows, including standing up safety programs for site types new to Flexcar.
