We are seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist, who will be responsible for fostering a culture of safety, and leading continuous improvement initiatives that result in an effective environmental health and safety program and provide a safe working environment for all Kardium employees and guests. Please note, this opportunity is a hybrid work arrangement, located in Burnaby, BC.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or Occupational Hygiene or Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science-related program with an aptitude for Occupational Health and Safety
  • Minimum 5 years health and safety management experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Advanced knowledge of OHS regulations and other applicable standards (i.e. CSA, ANSI, NIOSH)
  • Experience in an ISO 13485 or AS9100 regulated manufacturing environment or similar industry
  • Proven track record implementing EHS management programs and initiatives
  • Highly analytic and data driven with the ability to organize data to drive conclusions and actions
  • Exceptional collaboration skills, ability to grow relationships and manage expectations, and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, and technical documentation skills
  • Flexible and willing to take on additional responsibilities as required

  • Project management experience an asset, demonstrating ability to prioritize, multitask and lead multiple projects simultaneously

Responsibilities

  • Aid in the development of Kardium’s environmental, health and safety (EHS) program, by proposing, generating and implementing policies and procedures to align with Kardium’s corporate goals and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Conduct EHS program audits, facility inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards in new and existing equipment and processes
  • Lead investigations of EHS near-misses and incidents, perform root cause analysis and generate formal reports
  • Identify and drive on-time implementation of corrective and preventative measures arising from all EHS audits, inspections and incidents
  • Lead and facilitate Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings, ensuring effective communication and implementation of safety initiatives
  • Serve as a point of contact for EHS related enquiries for internal stakeholders and act as liaison for external agencies
  • Maintain all EHS files and records according to the EHS administration program
  • Ensure chemical management and safety information systems are maintained up to date
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives by identifying EHS opportunities and driving change through positive stakeholder engagement
  • Aid in completing occupational hygiene exposure assessments with formal reports
  • Aid in the development and delivery of EHS training, including new hire orientation, inspection and proper use and care of PPE/RPE, safety device operation, etc…
  • Support the ergonomics program by conducting field- and office-based ergonomic assessments
  • Support manufacturing, training, and engineering department stakeholders by responding to EHS-related enquiries and participating in HAZOPS and risk assessments
  • Organize the repair, maintenance, calibration and replenishement of EHS equipment and supplies
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure timely completion and reporting of EHS projects
