About The Position

Dura-Line, an Orbia Business, is seeking an experienced Environmental Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHSS) Specialist for its Elyria, Ohio location. This role is crucial in fostering a safety-conscious culture, ensuring compliance, and championing sustainability initiatives. The EHSS Specialist acts as the main liaison between plant associates' safety activities and the Management and Corporate EH&S Team, developing strong professional relationships with the Plant management team. The role involves safeguarding employees' health and safety, mitigating safety risks, evaluating work environments for potential risks and hazards, and consulting with employers and employees on best practices.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years in a site EHSS role in manufacturing operations, including safety or environmental administration and project management.
  • Associates or 2 year degree in Safety and Health, Environmental, Science or Engineering or related discipline or equivalent to 3 plus years of relevant work experience.
  • Manufacturing experience required
  • Aware of federal compliance EHS/OSHA/EPA regulations and standards.
  • SWPPP, EPCRA, EPA TIER II, basic industrial hygiene, conservation program knowledge/experience.
  • Experience with objective accident investigations for all accidents and near miss occurrences, analyze injury trends, and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Knowledge of regulatory reporting and inspection processes at various levels.
  • Capable of training employees and able to write reports, work instructions, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; government reporting Tier II.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participating in the plants efforts to engage the entire workforce to build a strong EHS culture that leads to zero harm to our employees and the environment by making recommendations for changes and lead site management team.
  • Be the Subject matter expert for the facility and work with and through the plant management team to implement environmental, health, and safety requirements and that they are met through ownership and accountability by all employees.
  • Lead and drive EHSS initiatives and processes at the site to reduce risk, drive safe and planet friendly behaviors and practices.
  • Elevate the plant site safety performance by improving and fostering a safety culture.
  • Analyzes leading and lagging indicators and provide recommendations that lead to zero harm to our employees and the environment through proactive, risk-based programs that engage with employees.
  • Provide critical support and subject matter expertise to the manufacturing plant and the Plant Leadership.
  • Influence plant leadership and employees through demonstrated subject matter expertise, passion for EHS, and the ability to work adeptly on transactional requirements and transformational imperatives.
  • This position is the EHS functional expert for the facility and will work with and through the plant management team to implement environmental, health, and safety requirements and that they are met through ownership and accountability by all employees including processing EHSS related administrative and reporting requirements.
  • KPI: TTIR, LTIR, Near Misses, ISO and Audit results. Compliance, regulation, inspections and auditing responsibilities and preparation.
  • Verify and ensure the compliance with company and governmental safety and environmental program requirements through inspection, risk assessments, site audits and evaluation of the environment/facility, equipment and processes in work areas.
