About The Position

FYidoctors is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist to join their team at a state-of-the-art vertically integrated ophthalmic manufacturing and warehousing laboratory in Delta, Canada. This role is crucial for maintaining efficiency and quality, providing HSE leadership, and coaching supervisors and workers to prioritize Health, Safety, and Environmental objectives. The specialist will ensure 100% compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations while fostering a culture where safety and productivity coexist. Requirements

  • Bachelor degree or two year diploma in engineering (chemical or environmental) or a related field and a OHS certification
  • 3-5 years experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Worker’s Compensation Act, OHS regulations, and BC Waste and Hazardous Waste Regulations. Proficient in MS Office.
  • Intermediate First Aid certificate and Transportation of Dangerous Goods training
  • Five to ten plus years of previous experience as an Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator or another related role

Responsibilities

  • Provide environmental, health and safety leadership to Delta ophthalmic lab
  • Participate in or co-chair the Delta Lab Health and Safety committee
  • Work with the leadership team across all departments to ensure compliance with all BC WorkSafe policies and procedures
  • Arrange for all required related staff training and ensure employee files are updated appropriately
  • Develop, write, update & implement and maintain all Environmental and H&S SOPS
  • Maintain the system for receiving, storing, categorizing and updating the relevant Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • Ownership and deployment of all Fire Safety processes and protocols to ensure compliance with Work Safe and Delta Fire and Emergency services
  • Review and audit environmental and health and safety processes and procedures
  • Ensure Delta has an effective Environmental Management system for current and future production growth
  • Understand local, provincial and federal environmental regulations to ensure compliance including permitting and reporting
  • Defining KPIs for environmental first aid
  • Develop, deploy and maintain a comprehensive Risk Management/Disaster recovery program for the Delta facility in conjunction with the lab leadership team
  • With a passion for continuous improvement, review H&S and Environmental practices and processes with a view to improvement and savings (waste reduction)
  • Track and communicate environmental, health and safety incidents
  • Work with subcontractors and other partners on both safe practices and overall improvements
  • Assist the leadership team in training and coaching as it relates to environmental and health and safety processes and procedures
  • As required, assist FYi Home office with various H&S and Environmental processes and procedure
