About The Position

The EHS Manager will lead, motivate, and cultivate a culture of EHS excellence in the workplace to mitigate risks, prevent accidents and illnesses, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote safe and environmentally responsible behaviors as part of daily operations. This pivotal role reports directly to the site's General Manager. This position is located at the Houston, TX manufacturing facility.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of Safety and Environmental experience in a manufacturing environment - Required
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Computer proficiency with MS Office Suite - Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Must be able to travel on short notice 5-10%

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Health & Safety or related area - Preferred
  • Certified Safety Professional - Preferred
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish - Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with plant management and local safety personnel to address Environmental, Health & Safety issues and drive successful implementation of Corporate Health & Safety programs.
  • Establish Environmental, Health & Safety objectives and goals for the plant and departments ensuring they are consistent with Corporate Strategies and objectives.
  • Conduct on-site Health & Safety audits/ inspections to assure compliance with Corporate Health & Safety policies, programs, procedures and guidelines.
  • Ensure plant is complaint with state and federal safety regulations (OSHA/ Cal OSHA, DOT etc.) and formulates recommendations for implementing best practices
  • Evaluate the organization's procedures, facilities and equipment - identify, analyze and control of occupational hazards via risk assessments
  • Proactively manage and deliver employee Health & Safety training for existing and new employees (safety orientation program)
  • Educating management on health & safety best practices.
  • Manage, research and recommend safety programs, policies and systems
  • Establish a series of effective Health & Safety KPI's for the plant and provide monthly reports to Management
  • Manage Workers Compensation claims, working on recommendations for claim settlements, medical treatments and strategies (reducing company exposure/costs)
  • Carry out near miss and accident investigation in timely fashion; Identify root cause of accidents and implement corrective actions/measures.
  • Report accidents on a timely basis within the Company, Workers Compensation Insurance carrier and regulatory agencies
  • Communicates and celebrates success to maintain and foster Company's commitment towards Health & Safety
  • Maintain membership and continuous development in applicable Health & Safety associations, being informed on new trends, legal requirements and developments
  • Visit the work area frequently to ensure compliance and discuss safety issues with team.
  • Explain to team that safety excellence is expected and is a requirement of employment. Encourages the team to report incidents, near-misses and unsafe conditions.
