About The Position

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of environmental, health, safety, and regulatory compliance programs supporting a highly regulated aerospace manufacturing operation. This position serves as the site's primary EHS subject matter expert and regulatory liaison, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local environmental and occupational safety regulations while promoting a culture of operational excellence and employee safety. The EHS Manager partners closely with Manufacturing, Facilities, Quality, Engineering, Human Resources, and Executive Leadership to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements, including air quality permits, hazardous waste management, stormwater compliance, industrial wastewater programs, hazardous materials business plans, and occupational health and safety standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of progressive EHS experience within aerospace, manufacturing, or other highly regulated industrial environments.
  • Strong knowledge of: OSHA and Cal/OSHA regulations, AQMD permitting requirements, SWRCB stormwater and wastewater regulations, CUPA compliance programs, Hazardous materials and hazardous waste management, Industrial environmental compliance systems.
  • Experience in managing environmental permits and regulatory inspections.
  • Strong incident investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective action management skills.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and project management capabilities.
  • This position requires the use of information or access to hardware subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons as defined by ITAR.

Responsibilities

  • Manage site compliance with all applicable environmental permits, regulations, and reporting requirements.
  • Serve as primary liaison with regulatory agencies including: Air Quality Management District (AQMD), State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB), Certified Unified Program Agency (CUPA), California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Local wastewater and environmental authorities.
  • Administer and maintain compliance programs related to: Air emissions permitting and reporting, Hazardous waste management, Industrial stormwater compliance (sampling and annual reporting), Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) programs for a Tier 1 Qualified Facility, Wastewater discharge requirements, Hazardous materials storage and reporting, Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) reporting, California Environmental Reporting System (CERS) submissions.
  • Manage environmental inspections, audits, business specific permitting including renewals, and regulatory reporting activities.
  • Maintain strict adherence to AS9100 quality standards, traceability requirements, and customer-specific aerospace and defense regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and implement program changes necessary to maintain compliance.
  • Develop corrective action plans and manage closure of audit findings and regulatory observations.
  • Maintain site environmental and safety documentation, permits, licenses, and records.
  • Lead site compliance with OSHA and California OSHA (Cal/OSHA) regulations.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive suite of safety programs.
  • Conduct routine facility inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits.
  • Investigate incidents, injuries, near misses, and environmental releases, ensuring timely corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain OSHA recordkeeping and injury/illness reporting requirements.
  • Develop and deliver EHS training programs for employees, supervisors, and leadership.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through employee engagement, safety committees, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support onboarding and ongoing EHS education programs.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to management teams regarding regulatory requirements and best practices.
  • Experience in conducting training for crane, aerial lift, fall protection and forklift operations.
  • Experience conducting internal compliance inspections in EHS programs.
  • Experience in conducting in person training and developing online training for various EHS compliance related topics to various types of audience.
  • Partners with engineers, scientists, and management to support the integration of EHS into the design of new or altered processes and operations and building construction projects.
  • Lead EHS performance improvement initiatives utilizing Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Develop and track key EHS performance indicators.
  • Analyze trends and implement proactive measures to reduce risk and improve compliance performance.
  • Support sustainability initiatives and environmental stewardship objectives.
