About The Position

Manages the overall operational activities of the Environmental Health Division work group and coordinates with local and State departments and agencies. Interprets and applies State and Federal laws to provide a safe environment for the local population and visitors. Manages Environmental Health programs and provides training and supervision to staff members.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in environmental health, life sciences, biology, or related field.
3+ years of experience at a senior level in department or function.
Must possess a valid Wyoming/Idaho Driver’s License and maintain an acceptable driving record.
Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) with the National Environmental Health Association, or qualifications and ability to obtain certification within 12 months of employment (as stated in Wyoming Title 35-7-121(g)).
Knowledge of EPA regulations; Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and State food codes, pool codes, and sanitary codes for childcare facilities, tattoo practitioners, and other establishments
Knowledge of General laboratory methods, practices, and procedures.
Knowledge of Methods and techniques involved in conflict management and negotiation.
Knowledge of Principles and procedures of recordkeeping, reporting and retention.
Knowledge of Safety rules and regulations, occupational hazards, and safety precautions.
Knowledge of Principles and practices of effective project management, leadership, supervision and training.
Skills in Teaching and communicating complex scientific information to a variety of audiences.
Skills in Researching and understanding scientific data.
Skills in Conducting bacteriological analysis on potable water and pool/spa samples; operating and maintaining laboratory equipment.
Skills in Creating, implementing, and monitoring an annual budget.
Skills in Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with coworkers and other individuals in contact during the course of work; communicating clearly and concisely.

Responsibilities

Monitors field inspection program, reviews elevated inspections, and determines plan to ensure compliance with state and local health codes.
Responds to environmental complaints; assists State Health Department conduct epidemiological investigations of reported illness or disease outbreaks.
Plans, organizes, implements, and supervises environmental health services and staff; develops and prioritizes procedures and guidelines; trains personnel to fulfill the requirements that meet environmental health and public health standards.
Manages Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certified laboratory; verifies that proper quality control procedures are being followed for private and public water systems that have been identified to be contaminated; assists with contamination resolution.
Educates the public about regulations and health standards; organizes, prepares, and conducts food and pool informational presentations and training for public facility operators; coordinates with outside departments, agencies and organizations; engages Board of Health on environmental issues.
Interprets and implements local and State regulations, codes and rules; participates in the development and review of policies and regulations concerning environmental health.
Complete required Incident Command System hazard response training.
Assist with state and/or local agency hazard response plans and hazard responses as required.
Prepares annual budget and productivity reports by monitoring activities, expenditures, and revenues.
Supports the relationship between the Teton County staff and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and County staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and County information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
