About The Position

This position directs the Environmental Health Program for Talbot County Health Department (TCHD) and is responsible for general oversight and management of the program. This position is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, directing, coordinating and prioritizing activities of all Environmental Health programs at TCHD. This includes related budget tracking, activity reporting, and oversight of public health programs (including Food Safety. Well & Septic, Public Pools, Rabies Prevention, etc) through subordinate supervisors and staff to ensure compliance with environmental health laws, regulations and policies. The Director of Environmental Health provides consultation to the public and regulated industry on processes, testing, permits, technologies, licensing, and complaints. In the case of public health emergency, as declared by the Health Officer/Designee or higher authority, where it may be necessary to carry out the mission of the Health Department, this position may be required to report for duty during nights and/or weekends.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, in biological, physical, environmental science or chemistry.
  • Six years of experience involving inspections and investigations in the field of environmental health or closely related environmental health experience.
  • Two years of supervisory experience in environmental health.
  • Possess and maintain a current Registered Environmental Health Specialist license or be eligible to obtain licensure as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist from the Maryland Board of Environmental Health Specialists.
