About The Position

Sofidel America is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist to join their team in Gila Bend, AZ. This role will support the site EHS Manager in overseeing environmental compliance, loss control, safety, health, fire prevention, and emergency response planning. The specialist will help develop and implement programs to ensure adherence to federal, state, local, and corporate EHS regulations, while also managing necessary records and documentation. Collaboration with various departments, site and corporate EH&S teams, government agencies, and industry peers is expected.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health and Safety is preferred, or a science-related field with a minimum of 1 year of work experience dedicated to health and safety and/or environmental field in an industrial setting, or equivalent education and work experience is required.
  • Must possess computer skills – specifically Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the EHS Manager to maintain accurate EHS programs and metrics for facility management and corporate reporting systems.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all applicable federal and state, and local regulations, as well as corporate guidelines and policies.
  • Coach management and employees to ensure compliance with external/internal audits, Federal, State, and corporate EHS regulations.
  • Provide formal and informal training to employees, supervisors, and managers on safety policies and practices.
  • Facilitate safety orientation for all new employees as well as all visiting contractors.
  • Conduct risk assessments for all departments and make recommendations for modifications to practices, policies, and procedures to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Recommend appropriate risk mitigation measures to management.
  • Conduct appropriate health and safety-related inspections/audits and ensure corrective actions are monitored and documented.
  • Maintain an active presence on the production, warehouse floor, observe employees throughout the plant, and provide feedback and coaching.
  • Conduct environmental compliance audits/inspections.
  • Assist with the preparation of environmental compliance reports and permits.
  • Respond to and investigate EHS incidents and drive closure of effective corrective/preventive actions.
  • Participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specified levels of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, policies, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Performs other job-related duties in the area of responsibility as assigned.
