About The Position

The Environmental, Health and Safety Engineer responsible for providing technical expertise and assisting in the implementation of the Environmental, Health, Safety, programs for multiple facilities and departments. This on-site role is based at our North American Headquarters in Apple Valley, MN. This role will work in conjunction with others in the EHS function to drive our top operational priority of safety at GF BFS. This will include responsibility for identifying and executing key tasks, actions and events that help to monitor, report, facilitate and manage key elements of GF BFS’s related required (e.g. OSHA, NFPA, MPCA, Workers Comp, etc.) and pro-active (e.g. Safety Committee, internal audits, incident tracking, corrective actions, CI review/response, etc.) programs to support GF BFS’s commitment and continuous improvement towards the health and safety of its employees. Supporting GF BFS’s ongoing ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 certification is also a key responsibility of this position, as well as supporting GF BFS’s commitment to sustainability and protecting the environment. Delegates and prioritizes individual or team actions to enable Prioritizes daily activities and aligns actions to support overall function and business strategy. Models our GF BFS values and behaviors and demonstrates peer leadership to engage diverse audiences through effective collaboration and influence. In conjunction with leadership, provides input on individual performance objectives that are aligned with the functional and business strategy. In collaboration with EHS Manager, and supported by EHS Specialists, implements, develops and administers applicable environmental, health and safety (EHS) programs, including ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001, as applicable. Leads or assists in implementation of EHS projects. Identify and correct potential EHS hazards by performing job hazard analysis/risk assessments, inspecting facilities, machinery and safety equipment. This includes the identification, evaluation and control of workplace health hazards through the application of Industrial Hygiene studies. Develops and ensures delivery of applicable environmental, health and safety training to various employee audiences and contractors/vendors, as applicable. Coordinates investigation of incidents/accidents and corrective actions, ensuring timely and effective follow up. Leads internal Safety Committee and Emergency Response Teams; represents EHS function at daily Tier 3 meetings to report on safety incidents and relation actions; serves as backup for Worker’s Compensation claims, as applicable. Maintains and renews all necessary environmental and safety permits for assigned programs. Provides and maintains subject matter expertise regarding environmental, industrial hygiene, safety, regulations and organizational reporting. Review process designs and management of change requests to ensure compliance with safety engineering standards, ergonomics, etc. Seek out opportunities to contribute to the business success through proactive involvement in team initiatives.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Must have a working knowledge of Federal and State health and safety regulations, including those of OSHA, EPA, MPCA, NFPA and other regulatory or advisory organizations
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross functionally and to lead without direct authority
  • Excellent teamwork and communication, including presentation skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience and/or knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 is highly desirable
  • Knowledge and experience of LEAN tools and Six Sigma problem solving methods is a plus
  • Professional certification such as CSP, CIH, CHMM or similar
