The Environmental Health & Safety Engineer II is responsible for the safety and security of the East Providence, RI & Norwich, CT facilities and their employees. This role will develop, coordinate, and administer Environmental, Health, and Safety programs, and oversee security at both locations.

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, or other Engineering degree, or equivalent experience.
  • 5 or more years' experience in HSS compliance in Industrial Manufacturing or Chemical environment is preferred.
  • Experience with OSHA record keeping guidelines and administration.
  • Ability to think creatively and analytically.
  • Detail-oriented, self-starter with strong organizational and motivational skills.
  • Proven ability to lead initiatives working collaboratively and independently in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to influence at all levels of a global organization.
  • Demonstrated effective execution of concurrent projects and ability to multi-task.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient with MS Office.
  • Capacity to make innovative connections from ideas to business relevant opportunities.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English as it relates to this position and safety.

  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Build positive, collaborative relationships at all levels in multiple manufacturing facilities in the creation of a zero incident (“Journey to Zero”) culture, which results in attainment of EHS goals and objectives.
  • Champion a zero-injury culture through visible leadership and employee engagement.
  • Lead safety initiatives, behavioral safety programs, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Conduct regular Gemba walks, safety audits, and risk assessments.
  • Facilitate safety committees and drive safety observation programs.
  • Lead incident and near-miss reporting.
  • Perform root cause analysis on incidents and injuries to determine specific actions needed to prevent their reoccurrence.
  • Collaborate with appropriate department managers to maintain the contractor management and visitor security/safety program.
  • Coach/mentor and supervise employees on safe work practices, hazard identification, and risk management, including establishing and leading safety committees at each facility.
  • Ensure proper chemical handling, storage, and documentation (SDS).
  • Lead emergency preparedness and response planning: Fire safety programs and drills, Spill response procedures, Evacuation drills, Coordinate with local emergency responders.
  • Coordinate EHS training programs to ensure compliance with OSHA standards.
  • Facilitate onboarding safety training for new employees.
  • Maintain training records and compliance documentation.
  • Coach leaders on compliance of EHS policies, procedures, training, auditing, reporting, and tracking processes with Nordson requirements; local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
