About The Position

Kimley-Horn's Fort Worth, Texas (TX) office is seeking a Field Technician with 0–2 years of experience to join our Environmental team! This is not a remote position. This is an exciting opportunity for an entry-level professional interested in forestry, natural resources, and environmental field work to support a variety of multidisciplinary projects throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex. This position will primarily focus on tree inventories and vegetation data collection, with opportunities to assist on other environmental and field-related efforts as project needs arise. You will work closely and collaboratively with other industry-leading professionals, including project managers, environmental scientists, planners, and engineers. Requirements

  • 0–2 years of relevant experience or internship experience involving field work, data collection, or natural resource assessments.
  • Ability to identify common tree species and interest in developing strong technical field skills.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrain.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately collect and record field data.
  • Basic familiarity or interest in GIS, GPS, and mobile data collection tools (ArcGIS experience is a plus).
  • Willingness to perform both independent field work and occasional office-based work.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong sense of initiative, reliability, and willingness to learn.
  • Detail-oriented team player with the ability to contribute positively to a collaborative work environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, follow direction, work efficiently, and meet project deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Desire to grow professionally and expand skills across additional environmental and field service areas.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferred) in Forestry, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Biology, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Support environmental and planning projects through field data collection, with a primary focus on tree inventories and vegetation assessments.
  • Conduct field work throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth area, including tree identification, measurements, condition assessments, and data recording.
  • Assist with additional field tasks as needed, such as site reconnaissance, environmental surveys, data verification, and construction support activities.
  • Accurately collect, document, and organize field data in accordance with project requirements and company standards.
  • Develop familiarity with local, state, and federal environmental regulations, as well as Kimley-Horn’s and our clients’ practices, procedures, and standards.
  • Collaborate with project teams to support successful and timely project delivery.
  • Local travel will be required for field work, site visits, and project support within the region.
  • Approximately 80%-100% field work.
