About The Position

The Environmental Engineer (Contaminated Sites) is a mid-level professional responsible for assessing, managing, and remediating contaminated soil, groundwater, and sediment sites. This role applies established engineering and environmental science principles to evaluate site conditions, develop remediation strategies, and ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulations. The position works under general supervision while independently managing defined project components and supporting senior engineers on complex assignments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental related discipline.
  • 4 years of related experience.
  • Strong understanding of soil and groundwater contamination processes.
  • Strong familiarity with regulatory frameworks (e.g., AEPA/AER Regs, CCME guidelines, or equivalent across Western Canada).
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving
  • Strong technical writing and documentation
  • Project coordination and time management
  • Effective communication with team members, clients and regulators
  • Attention to detail and quality assurance
  • Valid and unrestricted driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • 5-8 years of experience in contaminated sites assessment and remediation.
  • Hands-on experience with field investigations, data interpretation, and remediation.
  • Geologist/Engineer-in-Training (GIT/EIT) or Professional Geoscientist / Professional Engineer (P.Geo. / P.Eng) designation (or in progress).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and support Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs).
  • Plan and execute field investigations, including soil, groundwater, and vapour sampling.
  • Interpret geological and hydrogeological conditions to characterize contaminant fate and transport.
  • Manage and execute drilling programs, monitoring well installations, and contractor activities.
  • Analyze environmental data to delineate contaminant plumes and assess site risk.
  • Develop conceptual site models (CSMs) to guide investigation and remediation strategies.
  • Develop remedial action plans (RAPs), feasibility studies, and closure strategies.
  • Optimize remediation approaches based on monitoring data and site conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, provincial/state, and local contaminated sites regulations.
  • Prepare technical reports, including investigation reports, remediation plans, and closure documentation.
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies to secure permits and approvals.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation for audit readiness.
  • Coordinate tasks, budgets, and schedules for assigned project components.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and contractors.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior/int staff and field technicians.
  • Support proposal development and client engagement activities.
  • Adhere to and promote health and safety protocols in the office and field.
  • Identify and mitigate environmental and occupational hazards.
  • Participate in incident investigations and corrective actions as needed.
