About The Position

The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) is seeking results-oriented, driven individuals with a thirst for problem-solving to join their mission of protecting and enhancing public health and the environment in Arizona. This role is for an Environmental Engineer Specialist in the Groundwater Reclamation and Reuse - Individual Permits Unit, Water Quality Division. The position involves researching, planning, and performing engineering duties related to the prevention, control, and remediation of environmental hazards. Specifically, this role will review Aquifer Protection Program (APP) permits for municipal water reclamation facilities and recycled water permits, ensuring reviews are completed within established licensing time frames and providing applied engineering knowledge and skills for permit application reviews. This position is available for full-time remote work within Arizona.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of State and Federal environmental regulations, environmental engineering and technology principles and practices, chemical composition, structure and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations they undergo in the environment, agency policies and processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in an engineering discipline required.
  • 2-5 years environmental experience (Master’s may substitute for 2 years’ experience).

Responsibilities

  • Review and evaluate moderately complex water reclamation permit applications, reports, facility designs, plans of moderate complexity and cost estimates.
  • Participate in site visits, data collection, inspections, and investigations regarding environmental topics.
  • Perform complex environmental calculations based on provided methodologies.
  • Provide rigorous technical guidance to municipal facilities, responsible parties and individuals to ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations.
  • Assist in preparing environmental guidance documents.
  • Performs or leads projects under direction of a unit lead or manager.
  • Respond to customer inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Provides compliance assistance to responsible parties while conversing with a variety of subject matter experts including contractors, senior engineers, geologists, hydrogeologists, and others.
