About The Position

This position provides advanced engineering support for the Bureau of Clean Water by reviewing technical information, researching new practices, and guiding National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) program work. The role ensures that water quality standards and permitting requirements are applied correctly statewide. As an Environmental Engineer Consultant, you will perform the following duties: Technical Guidance: Provide expert engineering advice to DEP staff, management, public officials, and the regulated community Research Work: Study new technologies, conduct modeling, and recommend improvements for wastewater and stormwater management Program Support: Develop and maintain water quality models, guidance documents, and standard operating procedures Training Development: Create and deliver training on NPDES topics such as water quality modeling and stormwater practices Data Tools: Build spreadsheets and applications that apply engineering principles for water quality analysis Collaboration Efforts: Serve as a liaison with federal and state agencies and assist with complex permit reviews.

Requirements

  • Two years as an Environmental Engineer or an Air Quality Engineer (Commonwealth job titles or equivalent Federal Government job titles, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • Five years of professional engineering experience in environmental protection or in environmental project development, design and/or construction
  • Possession of a valid Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license
  • Meet the PA residency requirement
