About The Position

Fluidstack is seeking an Environmental Engineer, Civil to join their Data Center Design Team. This role is crucial for leading the design, development, and execution of data centers, driving next-generation cooling and electrical distribution systems, and developing modular data centers. The position involves influencing behind-the-meter designs and planning for multi-GW campuses. The Environmental Engineer, Civil will own environmental and civil engineering for data center site development, including stormwater, grading, drainage, erosion control, and environmental constraints, from initial site assessment through to obtaining permits. This includes driving environmental permitting processes, screening prospective sites for potential risks, managing third-party consultants, and coordinating civil design with other engineering disciplines to ensure complete and buildable site packages.

Requirements

Taken industrial or large commercial sites through environmental permitting yourself: you wrote or directed the SWPPP, the delineations, and the applications, and agencies approved them.
Screened raw land for development risk and made the call that saved a project from a fatal flaw.
Worked directly with regulators (the Corps, state environmental agencies, county authorities) and secured approvals without slipping the schedule.
Managed AE and environmental consultants and sent work back when it wasn't ready.
Read grading and drainage plans fluently and redline them with specifics, elevations and pipe sizes rather than general comments.
Sequenced environmental compliance against construction speed, satisfying the permit while keeping the site moving.

Nice To Haves

PE license (civil or environmental).
Data center, solar, or heavy industrial site development experience.
Multi-state permitting experience.
Civil 3D or hydrology modeling tools.
Karst, floodplain, or brownfield site experience.

Responsibilities

Own environmental and civil engineering for data center site development: stormwater, grading and drainage, erosion control, and environmental constraints, from first site walk through permits in hand.
Drive environmental permitting (SWPPP and construction stormwater, wetlands and waters permits, land disturbance approvals) through agencies and consultants on schedules measured in weeks.
Screen prospective sites for fatal flaws (wetlands, floodplains, protected species habitat, contamination findings) before the company commits capital, and kill bad sites early.
Manage third-party civil and environmental consultants, holding deliverables to schedule and rejecting work that isn't permit-ready.
Coordinate civil design (grading, site utilities, roads, drainage) with structural and architectural scopes so site packages issue complete and build without rework.
