We are seeking an Environmental Engineer who combines strong leadership, engagement management, and team collaboration skills with a proven ability to build and maintain client relationships and build teams. This individual will lead and engage in a variety of environmental engineering work, including air and noise management. Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology / Geoscience , or equivalent related discipline.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in environmental consulting in the mining, energy, or infrastructure sectors.
  • Current Professional Engineer or Professional Geoscientist designation.
  • Experience with Ontario Regulation 1/17, as well as conducting air quality impact assessments under the Impact Assessment Act and Environmental Assessment Act.
  • Willingness to leverage existing technical expertise and expand skills / knowledge of other areas of the environmental industry.
  • Demonstrated success in client relationship management and business development.
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and inspire environmental teams, collaborate with peers and integrate with engineering teams.
  • Entrepreneurial with a strong quality focus.
  • Effective at managing internal and external stakeholders.
  • Clear communication style with the ability to plan, lead, and deliver best in class, high quality deliverables.
  • Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally as work requires.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of or experience with environmental assessment or permitting, environmental due diligence, and technical modelling an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the environment lead for multidisciplinary projects with responsibilities that relate to project development and design that mitigates impacts to air and noise. This will involve the determination of applicable environmental legislation and standards, specification of environmental design criteria, collection of baseline environmental data, modelling and assessment of potential effects, preparation of permit applications, engagement with local community stakeholders, and inspection of construction and operational activities.
  • Identify and develop environment-related business opportunities with clients and companies working in the metals, energy, and infrastructure sectors.
  • Lead the preparation of technical reports, including tender packages, technical specifications, and contract drawings and cost estimates, as well as calculations and modelling of impacts for air quality and noise.
  • Lead or provide input to obtaining approvals such as Environmental Compliance Approvals (air and noise management) and approvals related to natural environment (e.g., Environmental Protection Act, Fisheries Act, Impact Assessment Act).
  • Provide leadership, technical direction, peer review and advice within our existing environmental consulting practice.
  • Support resource planning and collaborative leadership on project teams.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of existing and emerging regulatory requirements and best practices.
  • Be relied upon as a technical expert in any combination of air and noise management.
  • Work collaboratively with integrated, multidisciplinary teams, liaising with and supporting global peers.
  • Recruit and develop Hatch’s next generation of environmental leaders.
