About The Position

This role involves assisting with the collection of a wide range of environmental data, including river levels and flows, surface water quality, and meteorological information. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a network of automated monitoring sites, undertaking physical surveys and measurements, and performing site operations and maintenance. This includes troubleshooting issues with sensitive monitoring and communication equipment and ensuring data quality using specialist software. The role is part of the Science & Technology team and offers support from the Environmental Data Team Leader, Environmental Data Manager, and the wider Environment Quality department.

Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to swim and be physically fit.
  • Ability to safely work in or around water.
  • An eye for detail and the patience to support evolving environmental datasets.
  • Comfortable working alone and as a part of a team.
  • Proficiency with tools and ability to 'build a fence' as comfortably as using computer and software skills.
  • Logical mind-set for electrical and communications fault finding.
  • Understanding of environmental processes and pressures.
  • Ability to follow strict guidelines promoting quality as an ambassador for the data collected.
  • Demonstrable understanding or experience in undertaking environmental data collection activities.
  • Understanding of the use of environmental data.
  • Ability and flexibility to self-manage a wide degree of job tasks while balancing the needs of a wider team.
  • Practical experience in electronics/instrumentation or a trade qualification.

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant scientific/engineering field is desirable.
  • Willingness to learn and upskill is key to success in this role.
